Wall-ups are the first exercise for push-up progression.

  1. Wall ups.
  2. Desk-ups.
  3. Knee-ups.
  4. Push-ups.

Commonly associated will be the first stage of Turkish Get-Ups and your standard Military Press or Kettlebell Military Press.

Push ups are commonly done on the fingers to aid in grip strength for kung fu, although this need is somewhat mitigated by doing Farmer's Carries and Kettlebell exercises in general, esp. Kettlebell Swings.
